Depression and suicidal thoughts are serious mental and physical health problems that can lead to a medical emergency if not treated early. Suicide is a leading cause of death for people between 15 and 24 years. Do you know that a suicide case occurs every 40 seconds in the world? In India, about 2 lakh people commit suicides annually. There are 27,000 suicide cases observed in the US and 37,000 in Britain, annually. However, the number of people who fail to attempt suicide is high. In Assam, class X or XII students committing suicide is alarming. The number of suicides due to poor performance in exams has remained stagnant over the years, with their share among student suicides steadily going down. Several mental, physical, and social issues are responsible for suicides. Most often, parents push children for excellence without knowing their boundaries and compare their children with others.
